Dr. Thomas, a professor of Sephardi Studies and Ethnomusicology, will present an exploration of Spanish Jewish heritage and the rich diversity of Sephardi-Mizrahi musical life. For Shabbat morning services, Dr. Thomas will participate in the leading of services, including leading mussaf and giving a drasha on the place of Spanish Jewry in the history of the Americas.

During Shabbat lunch, Dr. Thomas will present an interactive workshop on a range of musical pieces from the Sephardi-Mizrahi world, including several pieces in Ladino, Hebrew, and Arabic. Dr. Thomas is an alumnus of Congregation Beth Shalom, having grown up in Modesto!
